In the world of poker, appearances can often mean the difference between a winning hand and a losing hand. When bluffing, some people attempt to appear supremely confident to offset the fact that their hands are “junk.” This has the effect of discouraging other players from challenging you for ownership of the pot. However, there are others that prefer to use fear and anxiety as their weapons, coldly intimidating their fellow players into abandoning their positions of strength. There is a deep element of psychology whenever someone bluffs at the poker table. There can sometimes be an even deeper element of fear and anxiety behind the bluff, both for the one doing the bluffing and for those being targeted.

Some people claim they can practically smell the anxiety coming off someone who has gotten suckered into a good bluff. For some players, fear and anxiety are ideal tools in bluffing, as it plays upon some of the oldest instincts in the human psyche. When gripped by anxiety, people tend to lose their ability to objectively and clearly evaluate a situation and make good decisions. As any poker professional will tell you, the inability to analyze the situation before you is a bad situation for a poker player. Combine this with the stress of a high-risk pot and an imposing opponent and most less-experienced players will likely crack under pressure. As with all poker strategies, there are several ways to accomplish instilling fear and anxiety into your opponents during a game.

The most common method used to inspire fear and anxiety is by establishing a “reputation” or an “image.” This technique can either be long-term or short-term, though most players try to make use of both approaches. The short-term technique is to present yourself as being a dangerous player at the table you’re currently playing at. This can involve consistently raising and calling, even when the odds might appear to be against you. Presenting yourself as an aggressive player can make your opponents unwilling to risk going against your calls, particularly if you’ve been winning most of the hands played. Other ways this can be done is through presenting an imposing physical presence, as appearances can often play a large part in how a poker player “reads” someone.

For the long-term, fear and anxiety can be instilled through the use of one’s reputation or record. This method is significantly more subtle, as this relies on simply making the most of what the other players think of your poker game. For example, a player with a reputation for having a tight game can suddenly play with extreme and almost reckless aggression. This has the effect of catching other players off-guard and, while they’re adjusting their strategies to cope, you can choose to keep up the aggression or drop into a defensive stance once you’ve managed to get a sizable number of chips.

Psychology can also play a role in deciding which strategies to employ at a poker table. According to some theorists, poker mechanics tend to favor people who are analytical and self-analytical, mainly because knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses is crucial to successful poker play. Thus, a person who is able to understand his own psychological tendencies can typically be better equipped to deal with the high levels of stress involved in analyzing and re-analyzing people over the course of a game.

Article by Charles Stewart

Living a life without self-confidence or good self-esteem is one common way that others allow fear to “rule the show” in their lives. Fear is a concept, which indeed means many different things to many different people. However, most often the individual gives little thought (if any) to whether or not fear may be at work distorting perceptions from within the psychological and emotional being.

Ask any human being alive if they would like to have a life, which is greater, and more fulfilling that what they are presently involved with, and almost without fail you will find the answer is “yes.” Unfortunately, for many of those same individuals you would find that their own lack of self-confidence or lack of self-esteem keeps them from ever manifesting that which they truly desire.

If that is not enough, this concept of fear will go much deeper in the life as it affects many other aspects of it. Fear will even prevent some individuals from ever recognizing trust in terms of intra-personal and/or inter-personal relationships, particularly when relating to intimacy.

Fear is the anti-thesis to love, and as such, it is the most seductive force in the universe, which is not a good thing. For example, fear will distort perceptions from within the psychological and emotional being of an individual, and then fear will reinforce those distortions created. Finally, fear will completely mask the actuality of life itself, if the individual “allows it.” Quite often, the individual will think and feel they are being “realistic,” or that they have “matters under control.”

Take the example of one who believes it is not in their best interest to associate with another human being simply because their religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs are different from theirs. (They think this association might “taint them somehow” or “interfere with their relationship with Christ” for example.) Other examples include those who are in different social and economic groups who fear being “contaminated,” “made less,” or “what-have-you” by these obviously “lesser souls.” This list goes on and on…

Fear also holds others back from going after their desires or wishes because they are afraid to confront the “conflicts within” which are brought about because of fear’s connection in polarity to anything which is desired or wished for. If the individual were being candid, they would acknowledge that actually bringing about their desires would result in “changes” which they are not sure “they can handle” or “want to deal with.”

Fear is at the heart and soul of all those on the planet who are often perceived and interpreted as “evil.” In actuality, we are looking at those who made choices from a distorted space of fear, which then reinforced the distorted perceptions created, and then progressed to the point where the mind psychologically and emotionally became “closed” to the real actuality of the life. Furthermore, these souls’ abdicated responsibility and accountability for their choices to an “externalized deity”; by whatever name they call it.

Self-confidence and self-esteem are the keys to breaking this very unproductive cycle of creating the life through fear, rather than love. Whatever can be done in the life which is healthy, to promote good self-confidence and good self-esteem is very good work spiritually; for this is what enables the individual to create and achieve those things desired or wished for in the life. In intra-personal and/or inter-personal relationships, where trust is crucial to the continued growth and development of the relationship, self-confidence and good self-esteem are critical in achieving success on this level.

As for those individuals who commit horrific crimes against another (which again is often perceived and interpreted as “evil”) we would find in many of these cases that much improved self-confidence and good self-esteem would have mitigated or lessened the terrible crimes from occurring, if not having prevented them altogether of course. Indeed, there are exceptions here, but this article is not the place to discuss them.

Fear will hold people back from going after what they truly desire in life, and then they will rationalize to themselves why they are “justified” in not actually going after the thing initially desired. Fear keeps one from approaching their superiors. Fear keeps one from “bridging the gap towards physical intimacy with another.” Fear keeps one from achieving a life of greatness by rationalizing a life of mediocrity. I mean really, I could just go on all day about the things fear holds one back from.

What is the solution? Well, one more time; anything that builds self-confidence and good self-esteem is the key to stepping out of a life based in fear, to one that is based in love. When the life is lived from a space of love predominately, we will find those individuals who are “having the times of their lives.” In these instances, the life becomes so “blessed” that they simply cannot help but be excited about what tomorrow brings as they eagerly arise each morning to great the new day; and for the remainder of the lifetime, the best part of their lives are ahead of them, not behind. They live a daily life based in gratitude.

In the end, self-confidence and self-esteem are the keys to a life of success through overcoming one’s fears…

Hey Lloyd here, If you are looking for some answers to how self-image and self-esteem shape our lives, then I am glad you have found this website/blog and I strongly suggest you keep reading.Learn how to build confidence and destroy fear.

Because this is my uncensored self-image and self-esteem story. The ups and downs, why researchers show that most people suffer from the lack of or very low healthy self development and what has helped me achieve my personal development in this area.

Research shows that four in every five people report they have suffered or currently suffer from low or diminished self esteem. Often this is event related. For instance, self esteem can diminish when we are faced with a situation where emotions are heightened. It is said, that by the time we reach the age of three, fifty percent of what we believe about ourselves has been formed, by six it is sixty percent and by nine it is around eighty percent. By the time we reach the age of twelve, up to ninety percent of us have a well developed sense of who we are and what we believe ourselves to be.

Self-esteem: having a favorable impression of one-self is a basic human need. It

It appears to be a certain fact, from rising online searches about the topic, that a rapidly growing number of people do have some sort of anxiety or self-esteem issue,These conditions have the power to, and often do,destroy an individual’s self- progression and ensure a miserable life! Fear has been described in spiritual circles as Satans Greatest Weapon.Well even if you do not believe there is a Satan, fear is certainly the inner selfs greatest enemy..it paralyses, saps strength and enthusiasm and creates huge unhappiness.

The main areas in which it afflicts people are:- confidence to build relationships, ability to take action and stress in front of people or situations.Feelings of inadequacy in some form or other is the common factor throughout, along with social anxiety.

The causes of the problem can be complex, depending on the individual involved. One thing is for sure however, that the condition can ruin lives bigtime!! The better news is that more is known now about the causes of it and how to address it.The reasons for it taking hold of a particular person are officially unproven and a lot more time and space than this short article would be required to evaluate that fully, but I will put to you two things in contemporary life, which are particularly high on the suspect list:-

1) Visual imagery2) High expectation

On hundreds of TV channels we are fed a diet of watching good looking people.seemingly with super human powers at their disposal. These are people who seemingly

Hypnosis for anxiety is a powerful tool to help bring relief from your fearsHypnosis has many benefits, so let’s look at how hypnosis for anxiety helps you release stress, worry and fear. You no doubt are aware of the fear of failure. That deep concern about not being good enough or being embarrassed in front of others. The fear of appearing weak. This fear will sabotage your efforts and hold you back. It keeps you from taking risks. This is what I call a lower level fear because with some effort you are able to overcome many of these fears. With some confidence building tools you can assess then improve your skills and support system to regain some self assurance. Hypnosis is very effective in helping you to resolve these fears and empower your personal growth. But there is another fear that is not very often addressed. Yet it can be far more overwhelming and debilitating.I believe that the fear of success causes far more concern.Think about it. The fear of failure is a concern that you can’t achieve something and while it does cause feelings of ineffectiveness, it doesn’t cause as much concern as the fear of success. Are you afraid to be all of who you can be?Does your fear keep you from moving beyond mediocrity? It will be triggered when you approach a certain level of success and can sabotage your efforts to attain a greater goal.Think about it.What would happen if you now lived your life at a level of success and visibility that made you clearly stand out from others? How would you feel if you had to be your best most of the time? If you were exposed in such as way that it triggered your deep fear of not being good enough, of being a phony, of being a loser?Sounds scary? It will be for that part of your subconscious mind that fears you will be exposed as a fraud. I have had many successful business people expressing these exact fears. With help they realized that the self sabotage of their subconscious mind was holding them back. That the fear of success was deeply rooted and strongly active. This part of your subconscious mind strives to keep you from expecting too much, from exposing to others your insecurities, from feeling worthless. The truth is that it really does think that you are flawed, that you really will fail and are unworthy of success. So it actively supports that belief, demonstrating a negative core belief that you do not deserve to have it all. That if you try too hard you will be emotionally destroyed when proven to be a failure. Why would it do this?It is the defender of your subconscious beliefs and limitations. It also thinks of you, the conscious entity, as a child. It will do its best to keep you from being emotionally destroyed by exposing and being too visible. Failure at this level, it believes, could lead to emotional ruin. Like a critical parent it can be ruthless in its power and beliefs.”Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us… There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you…” Marianne WilliamsonYet we often do shrink and hold ourselves back. Hypnosis for anxiety can help you release this ultimate fear and grow in stature. To finally become the person that you really are, your true self, the “you” beneath your limited thinking.I am convinced that your destiny is to overcome this old programming and release these irrational fears. To prove to your limited subconscious mind that yes, you are an adult, capable of facing any issue or fear that arises and successfully move beyond it. It is time to realize that as an adult, things are different now. You have the ability to change your life right now, to overcome old barriers and succeed in exciting new ways. That is why hypnosis for anxiety is so powerful – it helps to change these old, negative beliefs at their core. When you use hypnotherapy for anxiety to overcome past limitations and improve your life you naturally discover that your inner power transfers from your old, resistive subconscious mind toward your new, healthier subconscious mind. You have the capacity to change your life, and hypnosis for anxiety is a powerful tool toward this end. You begin to experience yourself as the talented, self confident and healthy individual that you truly are.
You are going to run into challenging times while striving for your goals. Old Murphy’s law, if anything can go wrong, it will usually kick in when you are very close to achieving your goals, the obstacles make you feel deflated, tired and de-motivated.

Positive affirmations, sometimes referred to as positive self talk are useful statements which give you encouragement, boost your confidence and re-program your subconscious mind so that you can get back on track to achieving your goals. I used to think they were a waste of time because not matter how many times I said “do it now” I kept on putting it off. After research I realised that there are a few guidelines that you need to follow for your affirmations to be effective.

Michael Mahoney a psychologist from Pennsylvania state university studied a group of gymnast hoping to qualify for the US Olympics team. He asked the gymnast to talk about their the thoughts during competition. He found that the most successful ones in other words the ones that qualified for the Olympic team had the same doubts and worries as the un-successful ones, but what set them apart was their thinking, the successful athletes constantly encouraged themselves by repeating positive affirmations.

“If you think you can, or think you cant, you are absolutely right” Henry Ford.

Examples of positive affirmations are:

I am always courageous and confident

I always take action

I am a winner

I can do this

I am happy

I am completely relaxed

Every day in every way I get better and better

I am always punctual

I always finish what I start

I am strong and powerful

Guidelines for making your positive affirmations more effective:

1. Always state them in the present tense.

2. Say them in a passionate, emotional and authoritative voice in your head or aloud.

3. Say them whilst in a highly emotional state, use your emotional memories to get you there

4. Record your positive affirmations, listen on your MP3 player whilst relaxing and visualising the results (This programs your subconscious mind)

5. Always state the positive affirmations based on what you want for example If you are scared of something don’t say “I am not scared” because the mind will focus on scared. Instead say “I am courageous.”

Have fun and notice the tremendous results you are going to experience when murphy’s laws tries to drag your down. Kick him in the teeth whilst affirming I am a victor not a victim. By the way that wasn’t a great positive affirmation. “I am victorious” is better.
