You find them available in community centers and on college and university campuses of every major city in North America – self defense seminars and training courses. There are books on the subject, DVD courses available, and websites devoted to the topic. You have thought of pursuing some sort of self defense training a few times over the past few years but you haven’t yet. Here’s why you should.
## No. 1 – Gain some peace of mind.
Whether you are wandering the neighborhoods of your home town or going abroad, you should feel capable of handling yourself. Self defense training must not make you reckless but it ought to grant you some peace of mind. Nobody ought to live in fear all the time.
## No. 2 – Feel as though you are able to protect your loved ones.
In many cases we are at out most anxious and fearful not when we’re on our own but, rather, when we are out with a loved one, a girlfriend or child for example. There can exist a heavy sense of accountability that can be almost crippling at times if we do not necessarily feel as though we are up to the task of protecting them should the need arise.
## No. 3 – Project confidence.
Often prospective aggressors, whether conscious of it or not, will avoid targeting individuals who seem confident and self assured. Most predators are, at their very core, cowards that choose to prey on those who are weaker than themselves. This is not always the case, of course, but there’s an undeniable correlation between projecting anxiety and being victimized.
## No. 4 – It may just end up saving your life.
When it comes to self defense training, it is better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it. You may never be required to put this form of training into practical use. If you are ever called upon to use it though it could make the difference between life or death.
If you want to learn self defense, and you’re having a hard time discovering workshops or seminars near you, you have but to go online and Google “self defense training”. You may well find local programs of which you were not formerly aware. You’ll definitely find many excellent websites that offer tutorials and fighting tips and a few that even offer full blown self defense courses. Protect yourself. Invest in your own skin and move through life with the knowledge that you’re prepared. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with hoping for the best, so long as you’re willing to prepare for the worst.
