It’s been more than twelve years since you and the young woman you were with -your girlfriend at the time- were mugged in New York’s Central Park. Luckily, neither of you were seriously hurt; she was badly shaken up, and a necklace belonging to her grandmother was taken; you escaped away with a black eye, a bloody nose and a lost wallet. The attack was fast and brutal, and then it was over. The individual responsible was never found.
Your relationship with that particular young woman never was quite the same after that, and came to an end just three months later. By that time you were, of course, totally healed physically. Psychologically and emotionally though those three minutes -it couldn’t have been any longer than that- have haunted you ever since. They have hung like a dark scent in the night and colored every shadow on every street you have walked since. It has made you jumpy and irrational at times, discouraged and angry at other times.
Now, after eight years in Florida, you’re returning to New York City. You are going to want to be able to walk through Central Park and not live in fear if New York City is going to be Your home again. If sounds like you ought to invest in self defense training of some kind.

It’s very possible that you’ll never be called upon to use a solitary piece of self defense training that you learn. In fact it’s precisely the kind of thing that you learn and hope to never have an use for. That being said, if you are called upon to use your self defense training, you will be extremely glad you have it.
